Cable theft leaves Mabopane residents in the dark
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
More than 24 000 residents of Winterveld and Mabopane have been left in the dark on Friday due to the theft of cables.
Eskom says the supply interruption was caused by cable theft at the Hangklip substation.
Spokesperson for the power utility in Gauteng Amanda Qithi says technicians are working around the clock in an attempt to restore supply.
“Technicians have been on site working diligently on repairs and restoration of supply since the morning of Thursday. Due to the complex nature of the damage caused by the cable theft, Eskom is unable to determine the period it will take to finalise repairs and to restore power to the affected customers.”
Qithi says the utility remains concerned about the increase in incidents of theft and vandalism.
