Cable theft leaves parts of Tshwane in the dark

The City of Tshwane says its Njala 132KV substation suffered a major outage on Wednesday morning.
Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the outage is due to cable theft.
"A massive cable theft which resulted in the interruption of electricity supply to some of the eastern areas of the municipality."
The cable theft resulted in several substations across the metro without power.
"The substations that get power from Njala 132KV Substation include the Watloo 1, Mamelodi 1,2 and 3, Wapadrand, Mooikloof, Koedoespoort and Heatherly."
Mashigo said they cannot predict when power will be restored.
"Technicians from the city's Utility Services and Regional Operations Coordination Departments are on site. The damage caused is huge, and the rewiring of the band equipment will take a long time to repair.
"The city pleads for residents’ patience during this period. Estimated time of restoration is not yet available, and residents will be kept updated on the developments."
