Cachalia: Killings a reminder of policing risks
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
Police Minister Firoz Cachalia says the killing of three officers in Gauteng and Mpumalanga serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by cops.

Speaking during his visit to the families of the two officers who were shot and killed by an awaiting trial prisoner in Roodepoort on Friday, Cachalia said he was confident that the police killers would be brought to book.
Another police officer was gunned down in Mpumalanga on Saturday while attending to a business robbery in Schoemansdal.
The killings of these officers come a few weeks before National Police Commemoration Day 2025, where police officers who have died in the line of duty are remembered.
Cachalia assured the public that the suspects would be apprehended and would face justice.
“This is just another reminder of the difficult and dangerous work that the South African Police Service does on behalf of our people,” said Cachalia.
“I have visited the families to express my condolences. The support for the families, the funeral arrangements and the consequences that follow a murder of a police officer are in the responsibility of the provincial commissioner, and he has assured me that all of that is being taken care of.”
