Campaign to fix numerous potholes on Gauteng roads
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Gauteng Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure has embarked on a programme to fix the numerous potholes on roads around the province.
The recent heavy rain has been blamed for the potholes.
MEC Jacob Mamabolo says the department’s emergency road maintenance teams are on the ground attending to the damaged infrastructure.
“The department has embarked on a maintenance and repair programme giving priority to those major routes affected mainly by poor road conditions, potholes and debris removal. This forms part of the department’s #SmartMobility campaign, a dedicated extra-capacity to catch up with backlogs of Covid-19 lockdowns that adversely affected road maintenance programme.
“Drivers need to recognise that such conditions present unique challenges including, but not limited to, reduced visibility; reduced traction as well as increased time to bring a vehicle to a complete stop.”
