He was expected to appear in court soon on a murder charge.
Sister Mary Paule Tacke, 82, was hijacked and kidnapped in Norwood, Mthatha, on Sunday.
Following the crime people who worked with her saw her car in Mthatha and followed it.
The police were called and during the ensuing chase the car overturned.
"Two men escaped on foot and police found a 9mm pistol with five rounds and a cellphone that belonged to one of the men," Fatyela said at the time.
Tacke's body was found in Nangeni, in a small stream in the veld, on Monday.
