Cape Town man arrested for St George's Cathedral fire

A 40-year-old man is expected to appear in court on Tuesday for a fire in one of Cape Town's prestigious church buildings.

The suspect is believed to have had a hand in the fire that broke out in the basement of the St George's Cathedral in Cape Town in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He faces a charge of arson.
"Surveillance cameras of a hospitality establishment in the area captured footage of a possible suspect, who was spotted close to the crime scene when detectives conducted their investigation," says Western Cape police spokesperson Andrè Traut.
"The motive for the arson is yet to be established."
It's unclear how much damage the fire caused to the structure.
The historic church is where the ashes of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu were interred last month, after his passing at the age of 90.
