Niehaus has cut all ties with the ANC after he tendered his resignation with immediate effect on Friday.

He was expelled from the party last week after the ANC’s national disciplinary committee found him guilty of bringing the party into disrepute.

Niehaus, who had been a member of the ANC for the past 43 years, said the ANC is dead, and “all that remains is to erect the tombstone.”

He defended his decision to leave despite being kicked out of the party.

“I have not left the ANC; the ANC has left me.”

Niehaus made scathing remarks towards the current leaders of the ANC, calling president Cyril Ramaphosa a “sellout”.

“Ancestors are spinning in their graves,” Niehaus continued in a live broadcast of his resignation on YouTube.

“Imposters have taken over. They are abusing the ANC colours and logo for a new liberal thing – that is no longer the original ANC.”

He told ANC supporters who elect to remain in the party “will be a betrayal” as the “ANC is dead and can no longer be saved”.

Niehaus pleaded with like-minded individuals to follow suit and leave the 110-year-old political party.

On the way forward, the 62-year-old Niehaus called on them to “urgently engage and consult about how we can proceed to build a dedicated movement”.

“That is what our revolutionary efforts and commitment should now singularly be dedicated to rather than trying to resuscitate the corps of our erstwhile beloved former liberation movement, the ANC.”
