Casac: Abrahams cannot make decision on Zuma charges
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac) has sent a lawyer’s letter to the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Shaun Abrahams, advising him not to withdraw the fraud, corruption and racketeering charges against President Jacob Zuma.

Casac has asked the Constitutional Court to confirm a High Court ruling setting aside the appointments of Mxolisi Nxasa and Abrahams as heads of prosecution.
The court ruled that Abrahams is unable to take decisions relating to the charges against the president because due to the dispute over his appointment.

Casac’s Lawson Naidoo says they have not received confirmation that Abrahams wants to withdraw the charges.
Naidoo says that should Abrahams have the intention of doing so he must give Casac two weeks' notice in order for them to oppose such a decision.
Naidoo adds that if Abrahams fails to give the notice, Casac may apply for an interdict and seek personal costs order against him.
