Cele: 25 suspects nabbed in connection with wave of truck attacks
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
The police have arrested 25 suspects in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal in connection with the wave of truck torchings around the country.
Police minister Bheki Cele confirmed the arrests in Pretoria on Friday.
“If you look at the last 24 to 48 hours, we have been on top of the situation. We have arrested 25 people and some of them, I think are five out of those received bail,” Cele said.
“But I am also glad that there are five people that were arrested in July in KZN who are still inside have not received bail, which means all segments including the prosecution, we are beginning to realize how serious the issue of truck burning is.”
There have been 84 separate attacks on trucks in South Africa since April, with the N3 corridor between Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal especially hard hit.
