Police Minister Bheki Cele says more than 40 suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent upsurge in cash-in-transit heists, since the implementation of a nationwide stabilisation operation in June.
Cele said in a statement on Friday that four of these suspects rank among the top 20 suspects wanted for similar crimes.
A substantial amount of money, as well as arms and ammunition, have also been recovered.
He says the most notable achievement of these operations has been the reduction in heists by 61% in June compared to May.
Over the past week there have been at least five attempted cash-in-transit robberies, including one near Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.
In a foiled cash-in-transit heist in Boksburg on Thursday, one suspect was killed.
Police spokesperson Vishu Naidoo confirmed that a suspect was killed and a security guard wounded in the attack.
