Cele wants Orange Farm police station to be investigated
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Police Minister Bheki Cele has called for an investigation in the Orange Farm police station, south of Johannesburg.
Cele embarked on a Ministerial Imbizo in the area on Friday afternoon.
The decision by the minister comes after several residents in Orange Farm told Cele that the police are not doing their jobs.
One resident described the police station as a scrapyard because the majority of vehicles are not working.
"Everyone has complained about this police station. National police commissioner [Khehla Sithole], I am going to ask you, commissioner, to take 7 days to deal with this police station; you will do your own investigation," said Cele.
Cele has also tasked Sithole to look into the matter of the police station commander.
Residents told Cele that police in the area are also colluding with criminals.
The minister assured residents that the police station would be capacitated to deal with issues of criminality in the area.
