Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Emergency services managed to rescue a jogger from Centurion from a flooded river on Tuesday.
Emer-G-Med paramedics spokesperson Kyle van Reenen says the man, who was on his morning run, was found in the flooded Hennops River.
"Reports from the scene are that a male had been reported missing after going for his morning run. He was spotted in the river in distress and a rescue operation took place resulting in his safe retrieval.
"Once rescued he was treated and stabilized on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care. The circumstances surrounding the incident and the events preceeding it are unclear, it is still to be established how the man came to be in the river."
Gauteng has experienced heavy rainfall in recent weeks that have resulted in localised flooding.
The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with possible heavy downpours, leading to localised flooding of low-lying bridges, settlement and roads, and damage to infrastructure.
