CEPPWAWU approaches CCMA in fuel strike
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) has approached the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), following another round of failed wage negotiations with the employer last week.
Three weeks ago refinery and depot workers downed tools after wage negotiations collapsed.
Workers have rejected the 7 percent wage increase offered by the National Petroleum Employer's Association and are demanding a 9 percent pay hike for 2016.
Deputy Chairperson of the National Petroleum Employers Association Zimisele Majamane said they are open to meeting with the CCMA and CEPPWAWU.
"We have received an invitation from the CCMA to meet. They have not indicated when the parties should meet. This is in terms of the Labour Relations Act. At this stage we are looking at that invitation by the CCMA and we will probably meet with the union at the CCMA," he said.
