Chamber of Commerce calls for two (2) time zones in the country to help Eskom to the energy problem.

The CCBC (Capital City Business Chamber) share Mr. Brian Dames, CEO of Eskom's view that energy management in high priority should be given to the country and in every detail must be managed and planned.

Now that Medupi's first phase of providing electricity only by the middle of 2014 in industry is coming (and it remains a opevraag or even the date is feasible will be), it became necessary to provide alternative options to explore and consider in order to ensure electricity supply in the country at an affordable but also sustainable basis can be supplied by Eskom in order not only in domestic needs, but importantly to ensure that the economic wheels of the economy tightening.

The Chamber of Commerce believes that one such option that little attention to a still largely overlooked, is the land into two (2) time zones. In the first place, the country is big enough to explore as an option at least. It seems only logical to be the country East and West of the 23th spring grade, running around Kimberley to divide. East of the 23th Spring degree retain the existing time zone - while West 23rd Spring degree "time" an hour later.

The big advantage that such a step is that the peak power consumption in Cape Town and the larger Western Cape environmental concerns and claims between 25-30% on utility only, tempered and more evenly distributed. Of course the cost implications of such a step should be investigated. Furthermore, the implementation of a second time zone in the country have the added advantage that it contributes to daylight saving, which in turn can lead to extended business hours that other economic activities thus can benefit.
