Charges against Sars officials baseless: lawyer
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The legal representative for former Sars officials Ivan Pillay and Johann van Loggerenberg on Thursday said the allegations brought against his clients are baseless.
Pillay and Van Loggerenberg were - along with Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, summoned to present themselves to the Hawks in connection with the so-called Sars 'rogue unit'.
Gordhan said he would not present himself, after taking legal counsel.
Robert Levine addressed the media after the meeting between his clients and Hawks officials concluded.
"Our clients will be following due process. They consider the allegations baseless and will be addressing the due process in accordance with their rights," he said.
Meanwhile, Van Loggerenberg thanked South Africans for their support.
"It's wonderful and thank you very much. Not just for the people who came, but also the people who continuously send us messages. Wonderful. I've received thousands of messages since yesterday, so thank you very much," he said.
