The bodies of two North West police officers have been found burnt beyond recognition in their state vehicle.

The two officers, who were stationed at Mareestanse, went missing on Monday while attending to complaints in the precinct.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says a search for the victims was launched when they lost contact with their commander.
“As the hours progressed with no contact then the Shift Management started searching for the pair. During Tuesday afternoon, the search led to the discovery of the two bodies at the back of a burnt state motor vehicle in the bushes in Moseta.”

Muridili says the bodies will be subjected to DNA testing for positive identification.
“The motive for the killing is part of investigations. The Province is affording the colleagues and families of the deceased police officers the necessary Employee Health and Wellness counselling.”
