Unions and employers have reached an agreement of 8% wage increase across all boards.

United National Transport Union's (UNTU) General Secretary, Steve Harris, addressed jubilant Gautrain workers outside the Midrand depot on Monday.

"All those earning less than R8500, will be moved to R8500," says Harris.

The agreement also includes traveling allowance increases of 8%, a guaranteed R5000 bonus and a second R5000 depending on a worker’s performance.

The agreement signed by unions is a one-year agreement.

Gauteng's MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, earlier told Jacaranda FM that he had hoped the agreement to be a multiyear agreement.

"I would have preferred that this would have been a three agreement so we would have certainty on the horizon," said Vadi.
