Chicken-dumping duties welcomed

"[We] welcome the finding by the International Trade and Administration Commission (Itac) that dumping of EU poultry products has been taking place in South Africa, and that the appropriate measures have been put in place to correct this," the SA Poultry Association said in a statement on Monday.

 

CEO Kevin Lovell said his association had long maintained that dumping had caused "material injury" to the local industry.

 

"It is therefore a relief that preliminary anti-dumping duties have been applied to imports from the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK, although it remains a little puzzling why differing anti-dumping duties were applied against poultry from Germany and the Netherlands," he said.

 

According to reports, Itac has imposed provisional duties of 22 percent to 73 percent on frozen, bone-in chicken portions from the three countries.
