A 29-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend’s five-year-old daughter.
North West police spokesperson Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said the man was arrested on the morning of Wednesday, December 30 in Boitumelong, Bloemhof.
Moleko said police arrived at the scene where the child’s mother informed them that her boyfriend had “brutally assaulted her daughter with a belt”.
The child “allegedly slept on the couch and when she woke up the suspect realised that she had urinated on the couch and became furious”.
“It is further alleged that the suspect tied the minor with an electric wire to the kitchen structure and assaulted her several times with a belt. Allegations further state that the minor was also thrown against the floor,” Moleko said.
The child was certified dead when Emergency Medical Rescue Services arrived at the scene of the crime.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Bloemhof Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder on Monday.
