Chris Hani's killer to be released on parole
Updated | By Suné du Toit
The man who killed South African Communist Party (SACP) leader Chris Hani, Janusz Walus, is set to be released on parole within the next 14 days.
Walus won his appeal in the High Court in Pretoria on Thursday.
Hani was shot and killed in front of his house in Dawn Park in Boksburg in 1993.
Walus' lawyer, Julian Knight, said the decision of the Minister of Justice, not to place Walus on parole, was reviewed and set aside.
"[Walus] probably doesn't even know of the news by now because I can't contact him. He will probably hear of the news in the media," Knight said.
The matter has been referred back to the parole board to set his parole conditions.

Meanwhile, the SACP spokesperson Alex Mashilo said they were disappointed by the ruling.
"We are not giving a detailed comment at this stage because we are in a meeting with the family of the late Chris Hani formulating our perspective," Mashilo said.
Mashilo said the SACP they will study the judgment to decide on the way forward.
"What they are not prepared to do is to just leave the matter," he said.
