Churchgoer 'speeds for God'

A Mercedes Benz driver who clocked up 200km/h on the N3 claimed he was speeding to get to church on Sunday, Ekhurhuleni metro police said.
A Mercedes Benz driver who clocked up 200km/h on the N3 claimed he was speeding to get to church on Sunday, Ekhurhuleni metro police said.
"The driver, who had three fellow churchgoers in his Merc, advanced the reason that he was late for a service," spokesman Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said.
"The driver was immediately locked up on a charge of reckless or negligent driving at the Edenvale police station."
Also on Sunday on the N3 southbound a biker, travelling on a Kawasaki, was caught going 193km/h.
A VW Polo sedan driver with a need for speed was caught doing 166km/h.
On Saturday, an 18-year-old with a learner's licence and travelling alone, was caught doing 183km/h on the same highway near the Grey Avenue turn-off.
All those arrested were released on bail and would appear in court soon on charges of reckless or negligent driving.
