The city's Ntshatisi Modigoane says some services have been restored and customers are able to pay their bills.

"What we've manged to establish so far is that everything happened at the user level, it didn't affect our applications," says Modigoane, noting that they thus far it seems customer data was not compromised by the cyber-attack.

"It seems as if the current software that is being used to secure the software is outdated, so we call upon the city to make sure the latest software is used to secure the network."
