Taps have already run dry in some areas with the current heatwave compounding matters.

Residents are advised to reduce consumption to immediate household use only - drinking, cooking and toilet use.

"We are currently reducing outflow at the Diepkloof and Orlando East Reservoirs in order to allow the system to recover. All of Diepkloof, Orlando East and parts of Orlando West will be without water until the system recovers sufficiently to restore supply," says the city.

The Lenasia High Level Reservoir is quickly running out of water, while the Aeroton and Grand Central Reservoirs are slowly recovering.

The City of Johannesburg is still under level 2 water restrictions and receiving 15% less water from Rand Water.

The City has advised people to stay indoors or under the shade as much as possible, during the current heatwave conditions.
