City of Joburg: Load-shedding poses no threat to water supply
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The City of Johannesburg says the current spate of rolling
blackouts do not pose a threat to the water supply in the city.
The city's MMC for environment and infrastructure, Nico de Jager, says there is some issues around the pumping of water to reservoirs in the Brixton area, west of Johannesburg.
"Over and above that, we don't have any other area affected by loadshedding in terms of our reservoirs."
De Jager adds water reservoirs are monitored closely and, should water supply run low, Eskom and City Power will be asked to move load-shedding to other areas in the city.
At the same time, residents have been asked to use water sparingly.
De Jager adds Joburg Water is looking at precuring new megawatt generators in case of a total blackout.
