City power attends to multiple outages in Joburg

City Power says its technicians continue to work around the clock to resolve outages in parts of Johannesburg on Saturday morning.

Spokesperson for the city’s electricity entity, Isaac Mangena, says there are however fewer outages than what was experienced at the beginning of the week that were caused by inclement weather and persistent higher stages of load sheddng. 

 

“We are however still recovering and dealing with backlogs in areas such as Hurst Hill, Roodepoort, Randburg and even Roven.  

 

“We are dealing with outages currently around Christiaan de Wet substation, Kloofendaal also parts of Northriding.” 

 

Mangena says power was restored in Houghton, Melrose Arch and surrounding areas after the trip at the Cydna substation on Saturday morning.

 

He adds the power station tripped after loadshedding.

 

“We are also dealing with some outages around Parktown,” adds Mangena.  

 

City Power says a lot of work has been done to ensure that the entity goes into the weekend prepared.   

 

Mangena has urged residents to continue to unplugging heavy appliances ahead of the return of electricity after load shedding to reduce chances of an immediate trip.

 

Eskom’s planned power cuts have been downgraded to vary between stages 3 and stage 6 this weekend.
