City Power inundated with calls from irate Joburg residents

City Power says it has been inundated with calls from irate residents who were without electricity on Monday morning.
The city is experiencing issues at several switching substations.
“We are having over 840 outage calls this morning with the half coming in 24 hours. The area with most call includes Randburg which had a huge outage last night at the Windsor substation,” says the power utility’s spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
“It has since been resolved and restored this morning, but we are attending to localized problems after that outage.”
A few other areas were also affected due to a separate glitch at the Cydna substation.

“Roodepoort, Hurtshill are also affected as we also lost Cydna substation this morning which affects Illovo, Melrose and Athol.
“We suspect cable fault, but teams have been dispersed to attended to that.”
According to Mangena the list of woes doesn’t end there as in Roodepoort cable theft has affected another substation.
“We have seven load centers affected by the feeder cable at Pennyville switching station that tested down after cable theft there.
“We also have an outage at JG Strydom switching station affected by a fault at Christiaan de Wet.”
Mangena says City Power has beefed up the teams in affected areas in an attempt to address the backlog.
