City Power calls on Joburg residents to reduce electricity usage
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
City Power has urged Johannesburg residents to reduce their electricity consumption to prevent overloading the system which is already strained.
Residents who receive electricity from the Observatory substation are currently affected following cable theft that took place at the Sebenza Substation on Sunday night.
Over the weekend there was a drop in temperatures with snow falling in some parts of the country including Gauteng.
This strained the power grid as residents tried to keep themselves warm.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says technicians are working on obtaining the necessary materials to conduct the repairs.
“The incident of cable theft which occurred last night caused power supply interruptions which is affecting several customers in Kensington, Bezuidenhout Valley, Troyeville, Malvern, Bertrams, Lorentzville, Judith's Paarl, and surrounding areas.
“As soon as the process of securing material is complete, we will advise customers on the estimated time of restoration”, said Mangena.
