A City Power official has been arrested in Midrand after attempting to solicit a bribe of R3 000 from a resident.

The official is an employee of an independent contractor who provides electricity disconnection services to City Power.
"It is alleged that the official went to a resident's home in Midrand on Wednesday and demanded a bribe for her not to disconnect electricity supply to the house", says Lucky Sindane, the Director of Strategic Stakeholder Management for the City of Johannesburg.
"The resident informed us and the Hawks set up a sting operation".
"The official was given R1 500 and was told to collect the remainder of the money on Friday. When she showed up she was apprehended," Sindane explains.
The woman will appear in court on Tuesday.
