The new schedule will kick in on Wednesday.

"Following the implementation of our new loadshedding schedule about three weeks ago there has been a source of public outcry from certain sections from our customers complaining about the instances where certain blocks get 2-hour loadshedding squeezed in a space of 6 to 8 hours," said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.

"While we have acknowledged this o the public we have also promised to address this technical glitch because for us at City Power apart from the stages and the frequencies of the numbers, it is what is in the best interest of the customers that really matters."

City Power took over the load shedding schedule for around 98% of the city from Eskom from the beginning of the month.

"We have been working hard to revise the load shedding schedule to lessen the impact of the two hour on and two hour off problem which we described as temporary pain,” says Mangena.

"Currently the new schedule sees the two hour break problem coming into effect from as early as stage 2 and it increases in frequency when Eskom heightens the stages of load shedding.

"In the new load shedding schedule which will be published by Wednesday, customers will enjoy between 6 and 14 hours of uninterrupted electricity supply. In worst case seniors between stages 1 and 4, this means that the two hour break problem will be done away with in those stages."

He adds that the revised schedule has ensured that essential services such as electricity, water and hospitals have been excluded.

"We will continue to explore other solutions in order to reach the ultimate goal of providing customers with as many hours of uninterrupted electricity supply as possible, while meeting the regulatory obligation to provide Eskom with a stipulated amount of megawatts.

"We are hoping that in two weeks time, we will have solutions for the higher stages of loadshedding, and we will continue to engage stakeholders, including councillors as we work towards the solutions for our customers It is worth mentioning that the current loadshedding schedule, despite its shortfalls, has allowed City Power to keep lights on for much longer, with some customers having up to 3- days straight without being shed."
