City Power to stop servicing defaulting customers
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
City Power says it will no longer respond to outages from defaulting and non-paying customers across the city.

The utility says this is due to pressures on the grid amid load shedding, and low revenue collection targets.
"The entity has started on an auditing process of the customers' meters, and we are seeing their vending history before we dispatch a team to attend to their outage calls," says spokesperson Isaac Mangena
"During the meter voltages, which talks to the outage in the bigger area, at least 70% of the customers in that area should be paying customers and if not, our technicians will not go ahead with repairs.”
Mangena says the utility's outstanding debt by customers stands at around R10 billion.
"We have started with a city-wide programme to ensure that we get as many residents as possible to pay for their electricity especially those who can, but for those who cannot the city has programmes to assist the indigent residents."
