City Power threatens legal action over ‘smear campaign’
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
City Power has announced taking legal action against a media house for what it claims are misleading and defamatory reports published on Monday, April 14th.

In a statement, the utility said the News24 article titled "POWER CONNECTIONS: Fake qualifications and poor appointments – why City Power is crumbling" was a smear campaign against City Power.
The article claims that a senior manager at the utility submitted fraudulent qualifications to be promoted.
“City Power, along with individuals mentioned in the latest and previous articles, will be pursuing legal action against both the journalist and the publication. We have already lodged a complaint with the Press Ombudsman regarding the conduct of the journalist,” said City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena.
He added that News24 had purposefully excluded City Power’s replies in the inaccurate article.
Mangena maintains all appointments at the utility were conducted per internal policies and the relevant legal framework governing municipal entities, including the Municipal Systems Act.
Despite City Power's demand for an immediate apology and retraction, the article remains accessible on the news.
