City Power ‘on track’ to restore electricity in Eldorado Park, Soweto

City Power says 70% of the repair work has been done at three of its damaged substations in various parts of Johannesburg.
Technicians were working to restore electricity to customers in Eldorado Park, parts of Orlando switching as well as Nancefield.
Residents in parts of Eldorado Park have been without power for a week following delays in repairing a substation which caught alight on Good Friday.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the repairs are nearing completion.
“A new transformer has also been brought on site to be on standby just in case.
“At Nancefield substation, we have managed to replaced five cables that were stolen and some vandalised and burned by cable thieves during the time we were working on the Eldos fire. This enabled us to restore power to customers including those at Nancefield Industrial, Olifantsvlei sewerage treatment plant, Kliptown flats, and parts of Eldos.
“We are also working on the transmission line affected by the fault on Wednesday from Orlando substation,” adds Mangena.
Mangena says the work was nearly interrupted when technicians were hijacked on Thursday evening.
“This highlights the threat underwhich our technicians and contractors are working. However, we believe that we are on track with our plans to complete the scenario one work by late Friday. This scenario will see us being able to switch on customers earlier than the seven days worst-case scenario earlier anticipated.”
