City Power working to restore power after trip at Eikenhof substation
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Several suburbs in Johannesburg have been plunged into darkness following a trip at the Eikenhof substation.

The trip resulted in a supply interruption to the Alveda distributor on Wednesday morning.
Affected areas include Alveda Park, Kibler Park, Southfork and surrounding areas.
“Operators are investigating the cause of the outage. We advise customers to unplug all appliances during this outage to prevent in-rush current, which might lead to further trips when the supply is restored,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
The substation has been a source of frustration for residents since the start of the year.
Recently, one of the isolators at the substation experienced a flash-over, causing a power outage and water interruptions over large parts of Joburg, the West Rand and in the North West.
It comes amid concerns about the state of the city’s ailing water and electricity infrastructure.
