There is large scale corruption in the City of Johannesburg's licensing department, with more government officials to face disciplinary action and criminal charges in the coming weeks.

Gauteng Transport MEC Ismail Vadi says 72 officials have been suspended and 15 so far arrested on charges of fraud and corruption, following an in-depth investigation that started in 2013.

Vadi says they picked up irregularities with two employees in 2013 with the investigation leading to a 2-year operation across the province.
"It was discovered that ghost workers were created on the eNatis system by two employees of our department for the purposes of defrauding the licenses fees fund. Both officials were charged at that time and are no longer in the employ of the department," says Vadi.
