Class action lawsuit looms against Eskom
Updated | By ECR
A South African law firm is gearing up for a 'David versus
Goliath' battle in court.
It's taking on Eskom and asking South Africans to join its class-action lawsuit in cases where a consumer or business suffered quantifiable losses due to load shedding.
Elaine Bergenthuin of De Beer Attorneys says Eskom's failure to do its job is at the heart of the matter.
She says they've been approached by companies across the country who say their business came to a standstill during the recent spate of power cuts.
“Companies that are running factories had to shut down those factories, for periods of time and so there was a definite loss of profit,” says Bergenthuin.
She adds De Beer Attorneys has set up a unique email for businesses affected by the power cuts.
