Clinic, two schools, 50 houses damaged following heavy rains in Hazyview

Mpumalanga Disaster Management teams are on high alert after heavy rains, strong winds damaged infrastructure in Hazyview on Friday.

Ehlanzeni District Municipality spokesperson Lucky Ngomane says they are assessing the damaged houses, schools and power supply.
"A preliminary assessment indicates that two schools and about 50 houses, including a clinic, were damaged. Power supply has been interrupted. So far blankets and tarpaulins were distributed to identified families as relief measures.
"The teams will assemble at Mahushu bus station, next to Midway this morning and will be accompanied by sector departments for further assessment and distribution of relief material. We caution communities to evacuate flood lines areas and to avoid crossing flooded water streams and rivers during this rain season." says Ngomane
The Red Cross has also activated its volunteers to join the disaster management teams for the distribution of relief material.
