Close to 500 new Covid-related fatalities recorded in South Africa

South Africa’s latest Covid-19-related deaths have come in just short of 500.
The spike in fatalities brings the death toll up to 27 568.
The lion’s share of the fatalities is in the Eastern Cape.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize released the daily statistics on Tuesday evening.
“Regrettably, today we report 497 more Covid-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 137 , Free State 3, Gauteng 68, Kwa-Zulu Natal 114, Limpopo 13, Mpumalanga 2, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 158,” Mkhize said.
The total deaths in the Eastern Cape sit at 7 171.
The Western Cape trailers closely behind at 6 524 fatalities.
Some 9 580 positive tests were recorded in the last 24-hour cycle, bringing the cumulative total to 1 021 451.
The recovery rate remains unchanged at 84%.
