After the final results were declared at the IEC national results operations centre in Pretoria West at the weekend, coalition discussions have already kicked off.
Political parties are looking at coalitions in Metros and Municipalities where not party could get the necessary 50 % + 1 vote in the local government elections.
The areas include the economic hub, Johannesburg as well as the capital of South Africa, Tshwane.
Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Des van Rooyen says the municipal managers of all municipalities have 14 days to call the first council meetings.
"We envisige that these meetings will happen sooner in most case," van Rooyen said.

He added that all municipal managers are aware of their responsibilities pertaining to the preparation of hand-over reports and the development of staff establishment and other internal structures and functionalities.
Van Rooyen warns that if coalition discussions fail it would lead to a breakdown of essential service delivery.
"We will insure that the implementation of the integrated induction programme takes place as expected," van Rooyen said.
