"Gauteng is expected to have more colder conditions today (Sunday), to reach maximum temperatures of about 14 degrees Celsius," says forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela.

Thobela says the cold temperatures are expected in the most of the northern parts of the country.

"The Highveld of Mpumalanga is expected to have cold temperatures with the lowveld expected to being cool with the maximum temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

"On Monday we are expecting colder conditions over the northern parts of the country, including Limpopo and Mpumalanga with the lowveld expected to remain cool. The northern parts of Gauteng will reach a maximum of 18 degrees, which also falls under the cool conditions.

"The central and southern parts are expected to be cold with cold conditions expected along the Drakensburg and Lesotho on Monday."

Thobela says they expect the weather to start warming up from Wednesday.

"On the 1st (of August) that is when we will start seeing improvements in temperatures, especially over the northern parts, still remaining cool however. Gauteng is expected to be cool over the northern parts and the southern parts to remain cold.

"Mpumalanga will still remain cool over the lowveld and the highveld is expected to be cold with much more cold conditions expected in central parts of Limpopo, otherwise cooler temperatures will start picking up on Thursday."
