The commission will look into how South Africa can be a global competitor and identify critical policies that the country needs implement.

"For example, what do we do from a legislative side, what do we do from the economic side, sector by sector that our economic interests are actually protected. What do we do about the general society, what framework should we put so that out people are not exploited by the advances of the fourth industrial revolution but they thrive in the fourth industrial revolution," says the commission’s deputy chair Tshilidzi Marwala.

The commission will include experts in various sectors including labour and business.

"Obviously you have commissioners who are going to come together, I can imagine that we will be thinking about we are going to divide our workload depending on the expertise of people,” says Marwala.

He says South Africa needs to understand how advances in technology will reshape the education sector.

"I think our educational system must actually change to be able to reflect the skill set that are needed for the fourth industrial revolution.”
