MPs sitting on Parliament’s Justice and Correctional Services Committee has expressed concern at the high vacancy rate in the National Prosecuting Authority's Asset Forfeiture Unit.

This comes amid several high profile arrests by the Hawks over the past few weeks.
"The committee heard that the AFU has a 45% vacancy rate which impacted on the work done and targets achieved," the committee said in a statement.

"In terms of the value of freezing orders obtained for corruption offenses relating to corruption, the target for the first quarter of 2020/2021 was R600 million against the achievement of R232 million."
According to the NPA, it targeted recoveries related to fraud and corruption to the value of R350 million, but the achievement was zero.
The committee’s chairperson Bulelani Magwanishe vowed to ensure that the NPA is properly resourced.
