Committee on Public Enterprises calls in Treasury, Eskom
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Parliament’s Portfolio
committee on Public Enterprises unanimously decided on
Wednesday to invite both Eskom and Treasury to make presentations.
This comes after Eskom leadership appeared before the committee to answer questions from MPs.
Committee member and IFP MP, Narend Singh, said there are still some unanswered questions.
“We believe that the other side needs to be heard especially because of the public spats on the Tegeta coal report. We feel it is necessary not to only hear Eskom, so we can have an informed discussion,” he said.
Eskom told the committee it had always complied with Treasury regulations.
Singh said MPs accepted Eskom’s answers to their questions.
“We accepted the answers in good faith. However, corroborating some of the facts that were given is something we can do if other role players are given an opportunity to express themselves,” he said.
The date for the next sitting is yet to be confirmed but is likely take place in September.
