Community apprehend Botshabelo murder suspect
Updated | By ANA
Quick action by members of the community in Botshabelo, near Bloemfontein, resulted in the arrest of a murder suspect on Saturday evening, Free State police said.
Botshabelo police received a call about an unknown man lying in a pool of blood in Section C, Botshabelo, at about 6.30pm, Constable Peter Kareli said on Sunday.
On arrival at the scene, police found a 24-year-old man with a stab wound to his chest.
“It is not clear what fuelled the stabbing but community members who witnessed the incident managed to chase the suspect and arrest him,” Kareli said.
The man was later handed over to police. The victim was certified dead on the scene. Botshabelo detectives were investigating a case of murder and the suspect would appear in court soon, Kareli said.
Selosesha policing cluster commander Brigadier Lehlohonolo Nyauka applauded the community for their action, saying community involvement in crime prevention was important.
“And we applaud members of the community in Botshabelo for standing against crime and criminals. We, however, make a plea to our communities to refrain from taking the law into their hands. Working hand-in-hand we can do more in squeezing the space of crime in our community,” Nyauka said.
