Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Competition Commission will investigate what it believes to be excessive prices of ginger and garlic.
Lemon, ginger and garlic prices have risen by more than 300% in recent weeks, amid reports that it helps combat Covid-19-related symptoms.
The commission's spokesperson Siyabulela Makhunga says the high demand does not justify exorbitant prices.

"It is our view that retail margins for the prices of garlic and ginger have increased astronomically.
"We don't think the increased demand justifies the increased prices for up to R400/kg.”
Makhunga says with sufficient evidence the commission should be able to prosecute retailers which are in contravention of the Competition Act.
