Concern as 10 000 Gauteng teachers refuse Covid-19 jab

The Gauteng Department of Education says some 10 000 teachers and support staff have refused to take a Covid-19 vaccine.
The department on Friday said some people, who have comorbidities, are among those refusing to take the shot.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona says they don't know the reasons for the refusal.
"We are quite worried that about 10 000 of our personnel, for some reason or another, are refusing to vaccinate against this pandemic.
"It needs to be noted that the reluctance to vaccinate is a threat to the government’s efforts to normalise schooling during this disruptive pandemic, and effectively threatens the academic year in its entirety."
The province has so far inoculated 53 154 educators and support staff since the campaign began last Wednesday.
"We, again, urge those who are refusing to vaccinate to come forward and take this vaccination which millions across the world are seeking," said Mabona.
Gauteng remains the epicentre and is responsible for more than 60% of daily new cases.
