Constitutional Court asked to extend SASSA's contract with CPS
The Constitutional Court has been asked to extend the contract between the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and social grants distributor Cash Paymaster Services (CPS).
"Having listened to the debate this morning, I am instructed to say that my clients will agree to an order that the court imposes a new contract on SASSA and CPS for a period of 18 months," said advocate Andrew Breitenbach.
Breitenbach is representing SASSA and Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini.
The court is hearing an urgent application to seek reinstatement of its oversight role for the payment of social grants.

SASSA contracted CPS in 2012 to pay social grants on its behalf.
This contract was declared invalid by the Constitutional Court in 2014 and will come to an end on 31 March 2017.
Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng asked Breitenbach why the contract should be extended for a period of 18 months.
