The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) believes traditional healers should be included in attempts to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Contralesa’s national working committee is meeting in Pretoria this weekend.
Contralesa general-secretary Zolani Mkiva says they believe the time has come to for traditional healers to join the fight against the pandemic.

Festival organisers released a statement on Friday, saying the festival has been postponed until May 2021. "With the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) increasing in Southern Africa and across the globe, MTN Bushfire, together with government stakeholders, its partners and sponsors, have made the joint decision to postpone the 14th Edition of the MTN Bushfire festival to 28-30 May, 2021.
He says the fact that the government is using English as a medium of communication is also a problem.
“Contralesa’s leadership will be exploring the best mitigating practises, preventing this virus from escalating to rural communities. The current medium of communication and information sharing employed by the national government is flying above the heads of ordinary South Africans,” says Mkiva.
Mkiva says information is only provided in English, which is elitist, and leaves most of the people not only ignorant, but vulnerable to the virus.
