Cop shot and killed in Illovo post office robbery

Another police officer has been shot and killed, this time in Mid-Illovo.

Police say he had responded to an armed robbery at a post office on Tuesday.
They say at least five suspects stormed the branch as officials were about to pay out pension money.
The officer tried to intervene but the gunmen shot him.

He died at the scene.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the robbers forced the post office manager at gunpoint to take them to where the money was kept.
"The suspects then made off with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects fled the scene in two white vehicles. Hot on the heels of the suspects, police have arrested two suspects. The remaining suspects are still at large.
"Various units within the SAPS including KZN airwing, K9, DPCI, forensic experts and other law enforcement agencies have been mobilised in a bid to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled with the money. "
