COPE: Give Herman Mashaba a chance

President of the Congress of the People Mosiuoa Lekota has urged South Africans to give businessman, Herman Mashaba, a chance to prove himself as the mayor of the City Of Johannesburg.

Mashaba is the mayoral candidate who will run against the ANC's Parks Tau at today's council meetings.

Lekota told Jacaranda FM News that the ANC and the DA are non-racial formations and they have both sworn allegiance to the country's constitution.

"Both Mashaba and Tau were voted for by black and white citizens of Johannesburg Metro. Both Mashaba and Tau come from the dusty streets of the Black Townships. The test therefore must be that dictated by democracy," Lekota said.

He added that COPE is going to give Mashaba a chance to prove himself as mayor.

"There is nothing that says Mashaba may not run for office of mayor," Lekota added.

Lekota said that Mashaba must be given a chance to deliver on the DA's promises.

"When it comes to the test of practice, we have seen Parks Tau's party [ANC] violating the constitution left and right," Lekota said.
