COPE YM calls for immediate resignation of Minister of police Nathi Mthethwa

Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa must resign, said the Congress of the People Youth Movement on Thursday.

"Over the past years we have seen the increase in police brutality case against innocent members of the public. This organized murder of our people by the blood thirsty police officers needs to be stopped", said Abel Rangata, Presidenrt of COPE YM.
The COPE YM noted a number of people who have been killed by police officers with some of the victims being young people "who have done nothing except looking forward to securing a great future in the safe and secured streets and communities of this country."
A 17 year old girl was shot and killed by police in Cato Crest last year October during a protest over housing.
Boy Mahlangu died in custody after being arrested in Enkangala by four policemen on Christmas day.
A hawker in Tshwane was killed when Tshwane Metro were trying to remove the hawkers from the streets of Pretoria.
Two protestors died on Monday when the SAPS members open with live ammunitions on the service deliver protestors in Mothutlung in Brits, North West.
A 27-year-old man who was arrested in the Brits service delivery protests died after he was apparently ‘thrown off’ a moving Nyala police van.
Mr Agnata says the behaviour of the police today has the exact resemblance of the police during Jimmy Kruger’s term as the Minister of Justice and Police from 1974-1978 were many civilians, especially in the township, suffered dearly at the hands of the police.
"Today we see similar trends by the current Minister of Police where police are the law to themselves and killing people at will. We have already seen the killing of Andries Tatane, the mowing down of the Marikana mine workers, multiple death of service delivery protestors who are not necessary a threat to the police," says Agnata.
The organisation belives Mr Agnata is not equiped to ensure the vision and the mission of the SAPS. "He has run out of ideas on how to run the now militarized police service," says Agnata.
The COPE YM however have a solution for Minister Mthethwa; they request his immediate resgination as the Minister of Police and call for the president to appoint someone who has the right qualifications and experience in the SAPS as a new minister.
